I’ve been looking forever for a way to get stock quotes over the internet in some streaming fashion. I have a lot of computational finance projects I’d like to work on, unfortunately most of them involve manipulating streaming financial data. Looking at static historical series and just pretending it’s real, or splitting the data up to test any models, just isn’t that interesting to me. I’ve called all the sources I can find, and have even gotten through to one or two sales folks, all of which have been able to sniff a small time operation a mile away. The closest I’ve come are these folks, but they never return my phone calls or emails, so I guess I’m still out of luck. I love being able to listen to lots of different types of music without have to sift through reviews. That’s the job of a DJ and why radio is still useful. I hate listening to intrusive and obnoxious ads though. I’ve tried all sorts of Internet radio stations, and they all have their faults. It seams like the minute I find a radio station that plays a mix of music I want to listen to, they start blaring ads that I can’t stand.

Pandora.com (http://pandora.com/) has come the closest to fulfilling my radio niche that I’ve found yet. You can build your own radio stations based on your favorite artist or song. I haven’t heard a single ad yet, though they have them on their site. The songs can also get repetitive sometimes. I just make a new radio station when that happens.
